SEALS

Grey Seals and Common/Harbour seals which are the most frequently encountered in the UK belong to the Phocidae family. Of these two species along the Yorkshire coastline, you are most likely to encounter Grey Seals that prefer the rocky topography upon which to haul out and rest.

There are some fantastic places to spot the seals, from Ravenscar in the North, through to Spurn Point. It is easy to see them as the dogs of the sea and want to go up and close to them, but these magnificent creatures should be observed from afar, for yours and theirs safety.

  • Keep away and watch via binoculars or camera
  • Always keep dogs on a lead, they can cause a Seal to panick and damage themselves fleeing
  • Don't leave litter behind, Seals are inquisite and could furt themselves.
